The Behavioral Health Billing Specialist is responsible for the coding/billing operations for the behavioral health department of Alliance Family health Center.
The essential functions include accurate and timely code selection and charge submission for all behavioral health billable services.
The billing specialist helps manage insurance claims and payments.
It is the responsibility of the Behavioral Health Billing Specialist to identify and maintain FQHC specific behavioral health billing standards.
JOB DUTIES:
1.
Verify coverage and eligibility for medical, behavioral health, and care coordination services.
2.
Communicate with insurance providers and patients.
3.
Review patient bills and correct any missing or inaccurate information.
4.
Assist with timely resolution to billing/claim edits or holds in the PM system.
5.
Use EHR/PM software to prepare and transmit behavioral health claims.
6.
Responsible for validating coding and billing information required to clear edits.
7.
Remain current with regulations and coding guidelines regarding new and existing procedures for appropriate code assignment for behavioral health.
8.
In coordination with AFHC BHIC responsible for implementing models of care specific billing standards.
9.
Work directly with BH providers in correcting coding and documentation as needed.
10.
Validate coding and billing information required to clear edits.
11.
Collect unpaid claims and clear up discrepancies.
12.
Identifying and billing secondary or tertiary insurances.
13.
Work with patients to set up payment plans.
14.
Assists NextGen with payment/remit issues to ensure timely posting of all transactions.
15.
Assists with patient calls or questions related to billing and self-pay balances.
16.
Assist with charge reconciliation processes and audits charges in PM system.
17.
Assist with development of reports to track trends and resolve issues.
18.
As requested, assist in the preparation of Federal Reports - UDS report, OSHPD reports, PPS reconciliation reports, Medicaid CPC, PCMH, Medicare Credit Balance Report, and others as assigned.
19.
Work on special projects as assigned.
20.
Maintain patient, physician, and financial confidentiality.
21.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING &
Experience:
1.
Associate Degree in health-related field or equivalent medical billing and coding certifications 2.
Minimum 4 years directly related experience in a healthcare environment with significant exposure to billing operations, coding/billing/charge capture/reimbursement/ practice operations.
FQHC experience preferred.
3.
Comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of CMS documentation, coding, and compliance regulations and requirements.
4.
Working knowledge of the HCPCS and ICD coding systems.
5.
Provider documentation, coding, and charge capture knowledge.
6.
Knowledge of accepted principles, practices, and tool relating to general healthcare professional provider operations and reimbursement for inpatient, outpatient, surgical and office based revenue.
7.
Working knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations and healthcare nomenclatures 8.
Strong Knowledge of coding and billing processes.
9.
Must be able to work with providers to provide guidance on billing.
10.
Must be computer literate to complete task(s) as required.
